The tax office currently applies a 20% tax on all SuperEnalotto winnings over €500. Prizes under €500 are exempt from taxes.

The current 20% tax was introduced on March 1, 2020. Previously, the tax rate was increased from 6% to 12% on amounts over €500 on October 1, 2020, by Decree-Law 50/2017. This was part of a series of reforms to the taxation of games in Italy, also known as the “tax on luck,” which also increased the tax rate on Lotto winnings from 6% to 8%.

0When are the taxes on SuperEnalotto prizes paid?
Sisal, the lottery operator, automatically applies tax deductions on SuperEnalotto prizes. This means you don’t need to worry about paying them yourself. Winners receive the prize amount after taxes, along with a document certifying the satisfaction of these tax obligations, which they can then present as proof of payment to the Revenue Agency.
If I visit Italy from abroad and play SuperEnalotto, will I be taxed if I win?
Yes. Since the tickets are purchased in Italy, the tax regulations decided by the Italian government must be followed. When the game operator distributes the prizes, winners receive the prize amount after the tax deduction. You may also need to pay additional taxes in your home country, and it is advisable to consult a tax advisor for clarification.
Other Lotteries in Italy
Other lotteries managed by Sisal, including SiVinceTutto, Win for Life, and VinciCasa, are subject to the same taxes described above. Additionally, the pan-European Eurojackpot lottery, managed by Sisal in Italy, has the same tax rates as the other Sisal lotteries.
Lotto, 10eLotto, and MillionDay are managed by the operator Lottomatica. Since October 2017, these lotteries have been subject to a tax rate of 8% on all prize amounts. However, from July 1, 2019, winnings from 10eLotto will be taxed at 11%. Other lotteries will not undergo any changes.
